The King & Queen were scheduled to visit Washington’s tomb on April 29, 1931, but the sudden illness of the King prevented them from making the trip and Prince & Princess Svasti filled in for them. The Queen, however, was able to make a quiet, unofficial visit to Mount Vernon the following day, in the company of First Lady Mrs. Lou Hoover.
