March 17, 1775
Washington, en route to Richmond for the Second Virginia Convention, dines with prominent merchant and planter James Hunter Sr. in King George County. He spends the night in Fredericksburg. It isn’t an easy journey. Washington notes in his weather diary: “A frost & cold—Wind very hard all day.”The Richmond County Independent Company writes to Washington, informing him that they have unanimously chosen him as commander.
