Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 scant teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup ice water

Directions

Sift flour and salt together work in the shortening with fingers and when mealy, add the ice water a little at a time. The dough should be soft but riot sticky. Handle the dough as little as possible. Break off a small portion and roll out thinly, cut and put into pans. Prick the insides with a fork. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Watch carefully! The shells are good for many rich and sweet fillings. A dab of real whipped cream and fresh strawberries on top is a beautiful dessert.

Yields one 2-crust pie or 6 to 7 dozen bite-size shells
