George and Martha Washington travel an hour and a half to attend Pohick Church then dine at the nearby home of Captain Daniel McCarty, a prominent Virginia landowner with deep political and social ties in the state.For the past 13 years, Washington has served on the vestry of Truro Parish, which includes Pohick Church. More than an important center of the Anglican faith, the church is a hub for local community and political discourse.
