9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Interpretive Center

Talk with the people who knew George Washington best. See the General through the eyes of his family, friends, hired and enslaved staff.

Performances daily; schedule varies. See the sign outside of the Interpretive Center for more information.


Virtual Mansion Tour

George Washington’s Mansion is currently undergoing preservation work. During this Mansion Revitalization Project, rooms will be taken off display for extended periods.

Although you can't see some of the rooms in person, you can view them and the objects inside with an interpreter-led virtual tour.

Mount Vernon: The Story of an American Icon Exhibit

See original 18th-century objects and view Mount Vernon's treasures up-close, including George Washington's sword, his presidential chair, and objects used and owned by the enslaved community.


Washington's War: Revolutionary War Movie

This 22-minute film highlights George Washington's role in the Revolutionary War and covers three campaigns – Boston, Trenton, and Yorktown—that led to victory in the War for Independence.

The film plays every half hour, starting at 9:30 a.m. The last showing is at 4 p.m.

The Smith Auditorium is located in the Mount Vernon Inn Complex, next to the Shops at Mount Vernon and the food court.


Discovery Station: A Revolutionary Shopping Trip

10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Historic Area

In the autumn of 1774, George Washington visited Betsy Ross's upholstery shop in Philadelphia and purchased 3 sets of bedhangings from her. Stop by the Discovery Station to learn more about this revolutionary shopping trip! 


Music of the Revolution

Join our resident fifer for a musical demonstration and discussion of fife & drum music, and its importance during the American Revolution!


Story Time: Revolutionary Prudence Wright

Join the Youth Programs team in the Interpretive Center for a special Story Time program! 


In-Depth Tour

11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Mansion Circle

During this 60-minute guided tour, discover more than 250 years of Mount Vernon history as you explore available rooms of the Mansion, and the surrounding outbuildings and gardens.


The Enslaved People of Mount Vernon Tour

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Mansion Circle

Listen to the stories of the enslaved people who built and operated Mount Vernon, and learn about their daily lives on the estate during this 60-minute tour.


Tribute at the Tomb

12:00 p.m. - 12:20 p.m. Washington Tomb

Pay your respect to George Washington by participating in a brief wreath-laying ceremony at the Washingtons' Tomb.

A staff member will lead those assembled in the Pledge of Allegiance, General Washington’s prayer for his country, and the placement of a wreath.

Wreath-laying ceremonies typically last 20-30 minutes.


Tribute at the Slave Memorial

12:45 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. Slave Memorial

Commemorate the community of the enslaved people who lived and worked at Mount Vernon during a special wreath-laying presentation.


Through My Eyes Tour

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Mansion Circle

Step back in time and join a person from Washington's world, like his personal secretary or enslaved chamber maid, as they go about their daily activities.


Foraging Food at Mount Vernon

2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Ford Orientation Center

Join the Youth Programs team to learn more about the types of foods that the enslaved community grew and foraged at Mount Vernon.
