“Our Independence and National Character…may be considered the Legacy of One.”
-- George Washington, 1783
George Washington’s remarkable life proves how one person’s efforts can have an enormous impact. Again and again, when standing at our country’s most critical crossroads, Washington demonstrated leadership and character by delivering peace and liberty to succeeding generations of Americans as “a blessing to Millions yet unborn.”
You, too, can follow in Washington’s footsteps and make an enormous impact. By joining as a member or creating your own legacy with a lifetime or estate gift to Mount Vernon as part of careful financial planning, your commitment will continue the preservation of Washington’s home and expand awareness about his glorious achievements.
You also will ensure educational opportunities about the Father of Our Country in years to come for millions of visitors, schoolchildren and patriotic citizens—from sea to shining sea.
Since its inception in 1853, the Mount Vernon’s Ladies’ Association—protector of George Washington’s legacy for more than 150 years, pioneer in historic preservation, and steward of the estate and gardens—has neither requested nor accepted government funding.
Our mission is:
"To preserve, restore, and manage the estate of George Washington to the highest standards and to educate visitors and people throughout the world about the life and legacies of George Washington, so that his example of character and leadership will continue to inform and inspire future generations.”
We are a 501(c)3 charity that depends on the special gifts of patriotic Americans for our programs and endowment.
“What programs can I support to help Mount Vernon preserve its unique legacy and all-American traditions?”
