Like most charities nationwide, Mount Vernon uses rates for charitable gift annuities recommended by the American Council on Gift Annuities.
A gift annuity typically produces an effective benefit greater than the nominal annuity rate because of the tax deduction and the significant portion of each annuity payment that will be taxed favorably for many years.
Gift annuity rates are based on actuarial data and thus are dependent on age. When two people establish an annuity together, the annuity rate is always slightly less than the one-life rate for the younger of the two people.
The American Council on Gift Annuities rates serve as our maximum rates for annuities with current payments; donors sometimes accept less than the maximum rate as a charitable gesture. Alternatively, you may wish to defer payments in order to secure a higher rate.
