Volunteer Mission Statement
To provide assistance to the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association in achieving their mission
to preserve and protect the home and heritage of George Washington.
The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association Volunteer Program was established in 1992. As of the end of 2007, volunteers have contributed nearly 274,000 hours to Mount Vernon.
The volunteer program provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities, from A to Z; from archaeology to zoology, and all of the letters in between. Volunteers work in the new buildings at the information desks, serve children at Hands on History, work in the gardens, provide administrative assistance and conduct major mailings. Volunteers participate in almost all special events including the Washington birthday weekend, Colonial Days, Gardening Days, both Wine Festivals, The 4th of July, 18th Century Fair, Fall Harvest Family Days, Mount Vernon by Candlelight and The Holidays at Mount Vernon.
For further information call 703-799-8687 or 6898. Volunteers normally must live within commuting distance and be sixteen years of age or over, or be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
