POSITION: Donald W. Reynolds Exhibition Coordinator

Historic Mount Vernon seeks an experienced and energetic candidate to serve in the role of the Donald W. Reynolds Exhibition Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of administrative and logistical details for a special traveling exhibition entitled Discovering the Real George Washington: A View from Mount Vernon.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: assisting the curatorial team with object selection; coordinating team meetings; working with the design firm during design and production of the exhibition, and installation of the exhibition at participating venues; and performing registrarial duties associated with the exhibition.
The successful candidate must be highly organized, have demonstrated and prior knowledge of museum experience in exhibition preparation and implementation, and possess excellent writing and communication skills. Candidate must be highly organized, work well within a team environment, and possess ability to meet deadlines and
effectively follow through on tasks. Position reports directly to the Curator of Special Collections.
- Flexibility, reliability, and ability to work beyond a normal work week is essential
- Strong database experience necessary; familiarity with TMS preferred
- Undergraduate degree in Art History, American History or related field required
- Graduate degree preferred
- Knowledge of 18th century America highly preferred

POSITION: Director of Safety and Security Services
DEPARTMENT: Executive Director’s Office / Operations
George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon Estate is seeking a Director of Safety and Security Services to ensure a safe environment for both human and physical assets.
Basic responsibilities: Development and maintenance of all Safety, Security, Protection and Emergency programs; Business and budget management; and Internal education and communication
Essential functions: Supervision of Estate Police Department, Responsibility for estate-wide emergency planning, Leadership for Mount Vernon’s Safety Committee and First Responder team
Minimum qualifications:
• Degree in criminal justice, safety, or public administration preferred
• At least 7 years leadership/management/team building in Security or Safety Systems
• Required to qualify for and carry a firearm, including certification for Conservator of the Peace
• Required to pass criminal background, drug and credit checks, and possess a valid driver’s license w./clean record
• Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations: NFPA, OSHA, Code of Virginia
• Expertise using MS Office Suite with the ability to analyze and interpret data
• Strong communication skills including speech, writing and listening
Preferred qualifications:
• Certification as a Protection Professional (CPP) or Safety Professional (CSP)
Equipment Used in this position:
• 9mm or S&W 38
• 2-way Communications radio
• Handcuffs, Baton, Pepper mace, Flashlight
• MVLA security vehicle or golf cart;
• Fire extinguisher; Electronic equipment; Security systems, cameras, DVR’s, radio base station; Watch tour system, various other security equipment.
Service in this position requires non-traditional work hours and ability to perform duties indoors in modern and historic facilities as well as outdoors in a farm-like environment.

POSITION: Security Officer
DEPARTMENT: Security
George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate has Full Time Security positions available. These are Special Conservator of the Peace (armed) positions. Virginia residence is required.
Positions available:
Day Shift 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (2 positions)
Swing Shift 4:30 pm - 12:30 am (1 position)
Responsibilities include responding to alarms and emergencies, assuring the safety and security of visitors and staff. Candidates must be Virginia residents at least 21 years of age, have a valid Virginia driver’s license with clean driving and police records. Position requires previous experience as an armed officer and a High School diploma.
Employment will be contingent upon successful drug test and 2 separate criminal background investigations including by Fairfax County Police, as well as DMV and Credit checks. Uniform attire will be provided.
