Mount Vernon Student of the Year Award
Do you know someone who created an amazing project about George Washington? Nominate them for the Student of the Year Award! The Student of the Year Award awards a cash prize to middle or high school students who create a project that discusses George Washington or draws connections between Washington and their work.

Award Criteria
The Mount Vernon Prize for Excellence in Civics and History in Honor of Dr. Jennifer London will be awarded to two student projects each year. These projects will be based on or demonstrate how the students were inspired by George Washington’s life and legacy.
Project Requirements
Within the project, students must discuss George Washington or draw connections between Washington and their work.
Type of projects may include:
- Papers
- Flyers
- Posters
- Websites
- Documentaries
- Speeches
- Exhibits
- Community programming
Student Eligibility
All nominees must currently be in grades 6-12, and nominated projects must be student-led. Projects can be from individual students or groups.
Nominations
Teachers, community leaders, and parents can nominate eligible students who have applied their knowledge of early American history and created classroom or community-based projects based on George Washington's story, legacies, or civic contributions.
Students may nominate themselves, but must have a letter of recommendation from a teacher, community leader, or parent familiar with the project to support their application
Prize Information
Prizes will be awarded to the winning students, the teachers of the winning students, and the families of the winning students.
Teachers
Teachers of the winning students will receive a $500 cash prize.
Winning Students
Winning students will receive a cash prize.
High School Award - $5000 Cash Prize
Middle School Award - $1000 Cash Prize
Families
Families of the winning students will receive a Mount Vernon Family Membership.
